The hat to the right was worn in parades by a volunteer fire fighter in the
early 1800's. Each fire company had an emblem or motto that was on their
hats. There are a few more hats on this page. Sometimes, fine artists were
hired to do oil paintings of scenes or portraits on parade hats and
vehicles.
Again, these are photos of
antiques with original art work. This is how fire apparatus were decorated long ago. With my
restorations I am trying to keep this art alive. I
only want to restore pieces that have the original art buried under layers of paint,
or removed in some way. When a customer brings me a piece with original
decoration, I try to get them to conserve what is left of the original
design rather than repaint it. |
