| Here is a
photo from the 1920's of a hose reel in a parade. Below are photos of
the same piece in different stages of restoration. This vehicle would be
hand drawn to a fire. It carried a spool of hose. In the old photo the hose
has been replaced with flowers for the parade. This vehicle belonged to a volunteer fire department in NYC before the Civil War. After the war the department was disbanded and in 1871 the carriage was sold to Ansonia CT. It has hand carved wood foliage and eagle heads, delicate wrought iron work, elaborate lanterns, and even flower vases. |
