FIREFLY  RESTORATION

Andy Swift is the owner of Firefly Restoration. His business is in Hope, Maine. Most of the restored fire vehicles on these pages are from his shop. I am a subcontractor for Firefly, applying the gold and painted decoration. We have worked together for over 20 years. I'm sure he has worked on more than 200 antique fire vehicles. He knows his stuff.

Andy does most of the restoration in his shop with a small crew. He coordinates with specialists for certain aspects of the job such as machining, woodwork, upholstery, plating and decoration. By bringing in experts in these fields, Firefly produces a very high quality restoration. This is how the original fire apparatus factories operated, with different departments of specialists.

Besides full restorations, Andy sells antique parts and whole vehicles on occasion. He also does consulting and many other related activities. Visit his web site at Firefly Restoration.

Andy Swift contacted the Fire Department of New York after the tragedy of September 11, 2001. He wanted to do a memorial project, and asked if there was a restoration they would like. Firefly Restoration ended up donating the restoration of this hose wagon. It has been rigged so that it can be used as a funeral caisson by the members of the FDNY.  Ken Soderbeck did the decoration, and more photos are on his page.

Below is another project Firefly Restoration did for the FDNY. When the fire boat John D. McKean celebrated its 50th year of service, some of the Firefly crew went to NYC to dress the boat up. Andy is shown below polishing the bow gun. There are more photos at the bottom of the Boats page.
