| More boats
now are being lettered with stick-on vinyl. This technology has become quite
sophisticated in the past decade or so.
Lettering can be cut by a
computer driven plotter from any digital font. I have 7,000 fonts in my
computer and there are tens of thousands more for sale on the internet.
These letters can be given an outline or a shadow, just like painted
lettering.
If you want a unique
design, an image can be drawn with the computer. I drew the
DOLPHINS
to the right with a computer. Then each color was cut individually and
assembled on the boat.
I can also cut the vinyl
with a knife for a design that has the look of being hand done, because it
is. The name SUMURUN
below is hand cut to match the previous painted letters on an 80 year old
classic wooden yacht. The name
ARUGULA is also
hand cut. |
