GOLD LEAF on
BOATS
|
| Gold leaf
lettering on boats has a long tradition. This page shows gold letters on
wooden boats. Most of these boats have varnished transoms. If the boat is
cared for and the varnish recoated regularly, the gold will last for many
years.
On ELYSIUM the gold has been given a texture to make it reflect the sunlight better. The photo below shows me with a pad of velvet in a drill, adding the spins to the gold. The velvet scratches the gold lightly. This technique is called engine turning or coining. |
